Extend Leadership Training
(June 2018 - March 2019)
Extend was developed by engage in response to the under-representation of learning and education staff in leadership within the arts and cultural sectors. From June 2018 to March 2019, I will be working closely with a cohort of 14 practitioners from across the cultural sector. The course comprises of two residentials, research trips, bespoke mentoring and group enquiries. The first residential took place in June 2018 with presentations from Nicola Turner, Zodwa Nyoni, Rich Daley, Deb Barnard, Claire Antrobus and Natalie Walton.

My group enquiry team is Karen Thomas (Open House, Kettle's Yard, Cambridge), Catherine O'Brien (Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh), Meg Parnell (Manchester City Art Gallery), and Lucy Foster (St Mary Magdalene's, Paddington Development Trust, London). We have chosen to focus on the theme of cultural democracy and will collaboratively research and develop a project, the outcomes of which will be presented to an invited audience of senior arts and cultural professionals at our second residential in March 2019. The group enquiries are opportunities for us to test our learning about leadership and illuminate issues related to leadership, education and learning in the arts and cultural sectors.

The Extend pilot programme was funded by the Cultural Leadership Programme and Creative Scotland; subsequent programmes have been funded by Arts Council England, Creative Scotland and the Arts Council of Wales.
